Empowering and Strengthening Community-Based Health Care System for Improved Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance In Cameroon

Project Overview:

  • Goal: Improve maternal and child health outcomes by enhancing community-based health care systems and surveillance for maternal and perinatal deaths.
  • Target Area: Limbe Health District, Southwest Region of Cameroon
  • Duration: Aug 5th - Aug 15th, 2024

The Problem

Cameroon faces significant challenges in maternal and child health, with high mortality rates and inadequate health services, particularly in remote areas. In response, we are launching a transformative project in the Limbe Health District to address these critical issues.

The Solution

Key Activities:

  • Training health facilities on Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Reporting (MPDSR)
  • Establishing MPDSR task forces in communities
  • Engaging local dialogue structures to support the initiative

Expected Outcomes:

  • 90% of health facilities in Limbe Health District will have functional MPDSR systems by the end of 2024
  • Over 80% of maternal deaths will be identified and reported
  • Comparative study to evaluate the impact of MPDSR training
